Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946 to a low-income family, with twelve kids eventually included, discovered early that she was able to escape suffering through her vivid imagination. She was writing songs before she could read or write. Within 8 years she was playing her first guitar. At age 11 when she was 11, she began singing at Knoxville Tenn's local radio station. In the same year, she released her debut album on Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. Although she became popular in the local scene while she was at high school, her ambitions were much bigger. The day she was able to graduate from high school, in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer to join his syndicated show in the years prior to this. Parton took the job in 1966, joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. She left Wagoner's show, however, in 1974 due to her albums on her own like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene exceeded the sales of their joint albums. Parton's song, I Will Never Be Loved by You (for Wagoner), hit the number. 1 spot after they broke up. The first time it made it to No. 1 was 1974.
