Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family with the benefits of community service. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon, who had him raised on the family farm near Eufala. He played football with three of his brothers for Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. For the three seasons that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week during his time at college. Following college, he relocated to Tampa and played nine seasons with Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top 10 young stars throughout the United States. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in 1975. In 1993, he joined the University of South Florida's sports department as Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
